If you are familiar with yoga, you have probably already heard of the different forms of yoga such as Vinyasa, Hot Yoga or Restorative Yoga. But do you know facial yoga? What is this practice, what is it for? In this article we will discover what is this yoga that makes you look younger without plastic surgery!
What is facial yoga?
Face yoga is also known as Face Yoga in English-speaking countries. It is a practice that has developed in the United States thanks to an ancestral Japanese practice of facial massage. It has only recently appeared in France and is still little known!
Indeed, the yoga of the face is not only on the face but also on the whole upper part of the body, it includes in addition to the head, the neck, the shoulders, the nape of the neck and the chest .
It allows us to become aware of the upper part of our body, of its functioning and of our inner self in front of others. It is an exercise that if done on a regular basis, the desired results will appear very quickly. With 20 minutes of massage per day, six days a week, the first results will be visible on the face and neck after 2 weeks. Continue the practice and after 4 months, you will be able to observe that the wrinkles have started to dissipate. And after 9 months, the skin looks rejuvenated!
The upper part of the body, which includes the head and the face, but also the neck, the nape of the neck, the shoulders and the chest, is made up of 170 muscles, about 50 of which are in the face. Several exercises have been set up to tone the different layers of the epidermis.
What are the benefits?
There are many benefits to this area. Indeed, one of the first benefits that can be noted is the rejuvenation effect. There is a logical reason why facial yoga has rejuvenating properties as the action of repeated massage on a specific area accentuates and improves blood circulation . No need to dream of botulic acid injections -botox- or other plastic surgery, with facial yoga discover a natural way to get rid of your wrinkles! The improvement of the blood circulation in turn generates many results.
How to practice it?
In order to practice facial yoga, different techniques exist! Indeed, to train yourself, you can follow courses on the Youtube channel of Yogom or follow one of Sylvie Lefranc’s trainings who proposes trainings by Zoom on her website .
Like any cosmetic product, it is important to pay attention to the composition of the products you use in order to avoid any risk of allergic reaction. Special massage oils can be used for self-massages, some ranges have even been specially created for this activity.
This form of yoga is recommended for everyone regardless of their age, it is often practiced by adults for whom wrinkles are beginning to appear and who are desperate to make them disappear, but it can be practiced by younger or older people. One of the main rules is only to take care of the hygiene of the hands, it is recommended to wash them before and after in order not to spread bacteria that would come from dirty hands.
For the first exercise, inflate your cheeks and then make a movement similar to a mouthwash: send the air from the right cheek to the left cheek so that only this one is completely inflated, keep this position for a few seconds. Once this is done, do the same thing with your right cheek, hold this position again for 5 to 10 seconds and then direct the air up your jaw -on both sides- and finally down. To finish, exhale the air through your mouth, forming an “o” with it. You can repeat this exercise several times. This is the so-called fish exercise because of the grimaces performed, it helps to strengthen the firmness of the cheeks.
The second exercise is to place a finger -ideally the thumb- on each side of the eyebrows, then make a circular movement clockwise, repeat three times and then do the same thing counterclockwise. Bring your thumbs towards the center of your forehead between your two eyebrows. To finish the exercise, simply do three pressure points while breathing in through the name and out through the mouth. An anti-aging or anti-wrinkle serum or oil can be used on the massage area. This exercise aims to reduce the lion’s wrinkle, a small wrinkle that extends from the eyebrows to the forehead, which is often reduced with botox.
The last exercise does not only take into account the face. The yogi should make sure to sit with a straight back and tilt the head forward to exhale through the mouth. When you inhale, you have to tilt your head backwards. Once the head back, the chin must be lifted and the lips must be glued together. Close your eyes and hold this posture for 7 seconds. A slight tension should be created at the level of the neck, after these few seconds, release this pressure and exhale. Do this sequence several times, stop if you feel pain.
Be careful not to raise your shoulders, they must remain low.
