Yoga mat cleaning recipe: discover the Yogom Yoga Waters :
Completely ecological product. Made in France with water and perfume extract from Grasse. Without alcohol, they do not stain carpets, smell very good and allow you to clean the covering with a delicate and light smell. In addition, Yogom Yoga Waters can be used to scent the atmosphere, to perfume your yoga practice and your entire apartment. You can even use it as a perfume for the skin or even put a little in your iron.
In-house alternative: mix water with soap or white vinegar and/or a few drops of essential oil. However, some essential oils can be harmful and aggressive to the material depending on the type of coating. We will see range by range which coating can be cleaned with or without vinegar and essential oil.
How to clean the Yomad Yoga mat?
The Thick Yoga Mat Yomad is made of foam. In order to maintain and preserve its coating, we advise you to shake it after each session to remove the dust. Then, spray and rub with a microfiber towel or cloth to clean the stains and allow perspiration to stay away from the flooring! Therefore, we recommend that you perform this cleaning either after each use or once a week.
The Yomad Carpet does not go through the laundry but if you need a little clean you can hose it down without any cleaning product. Then place it on a drying line. Avoid direct contact with sunlight or high temperatures to avoid damaging the foam. Heat can alter the material and cause it to curl.
How do I clean the Performance line yoga mat?
- The Ecological Yoga Mat Performance does not go in the washing machine because its microfiber cover could peel off the natural rubber base.
- Shake it after each session
- To clean it, spray withYoga Water or just water and rub with your microfiber towel or a sponge on the soft side.
- Homemade alternative: a mixture of water with a little soap or white vinegar (very little) and a few drops of essential oil
- If you need a more important cleaning, you can hose down the floor without any cleaning product. Put the then to dry on a drying line, avoiding direct contact with the sun or too high a temperature in order not to deteriorate the color and the texture of the coating.
How to clean the travel yoga mat?
It is the only Yogom carpet that can be washed in a delicate program, cold or at 30 degrees maximum, with little or no detergent and above all without spinning!
You can use it everywhere: sand, grass, earth, snow.
For a light and regular cleaning, you can, as for the other Yogom yoga mats: shake it to remove dust and clean it with a microfiber towel andYogom Yoga Water.
Why is the Travel Mat machine washable and not the Performance Mat when the coating is similar?
It is a question ofrubber thickness! Indeed, the microfiber will resist to washing but the thickness of rubber of the Performance, which is fused to stick with the microfiber will not support such a strong washing and will thus risk to come off. (unlike travel mats which have a minimal rubber thickness in comparison)
How to clean the star yoga mat?
We would like to draw your attention to the coating of the Anti-slip Yoga Mat Star has such an absorbent, non-slip coating that it will take a little longer to dry than other products. Do not use the back of the sponge to avoid scratching the Star coating, which marks more easily than the other Yogom coatings.
Equip yourself with a microfiber towel or a sponge (spongy side) and Yogom Yoga Waters to remove any sweat and dirt stains. Be sure to let it air dry and do not roll it up immediately.
RECOMMENDATIONS
We strongly advise against the use of a home-made mixture of vinegar and essential oil which may stain the coating.
Be very careful not to get body cream or oil in your hair before your session. This type of fat will not go away and will stain the coating material. This will not take away the grip of the coating but the stain will not come out.
How do I clean the Gentle range yoga mat?
The Douceur items are made exclusively of merino sheep wool (yoga mat, zafu, blanket, mini meditation mat / knee pad). The Natural Yoga Mat Douceur has a natural rubber base, so it is not recommended to wash it in laundry: the rubber base could come off the wool cover. The same goes for the mini meditation pad. The other items (zafu, bolster and blanket) can be put in the machine on a delicate or cold cycle, without spinning and without dryer.
To maintain your Natural Yoga Mat we advise you to :
- Shake it to remove dust after each session,
- Air it from time to time on a clothesline for example and
- Scrub it with a natural bristle brush from time to time as well.
- Spray Yogom Yoga Waters with a microfiber towel to remove any stains.
- Take your carpet and pad to the dry cleaners for a dry wash.
How do I clean the recycled cork yoga mat?
The Cork Yoga Mat is made of a natural rubber base recycled from shoes made in Portugal and cork also from Portugal. It is not recommended to wash it in the washing machine: the rubber base could come off the cork covering.
To maintain your Cork Carpet we advise you to :
- Simply wipe the surface with a damp sponge
- Spray Yogom Yoga Waters with a microfiber towel to remove any stains.
- You can also use your own mixture of water, vinegar and essential oil.
Cork is a very robust material and above all rot-proof and anti-bacterial so it is very easy to maintain!
How to clean the recycled RUBBER yoga mat?
If you’re looking to take care of your recycled yoga mat, here are some helpful tips to follow. First, after each use, clean the carpet with a cloth soaked in soapy water or with a little essential oil or organic alcohol-free perfume. You can also use the YOGOM yoga mat cleaning spray, which is based on water and alcohol-free perfume extract from Grasse. However, do not put your carpet in the washing machine, as this may damage it.
Also be careful with grease, as it can stain the carpet. Avoid putting cream on your body or a mask on your hair before using the cork yoga mat. After each use, roll your yoga mat with the rubber layer facing inward and the cork layer facing outward (mat face) to avoid damaging the layer.
In terms of maintenance, do not store your recycled yoga mat in a place that is in direct contact with daylight, and do not leave it outside if the temperature is above 25°C, even in the shade, as heat can alter the rubber and color. You can store your mat in a current Yogom cotton mat bag at 20 EUR, which is durable and long lasting.
Why does my yoga mat get damaged?
Wear and tear on your yoga mats is inevitable, even when washing it, there will be a point where the coating will mark. For example, from repeated movements on a foam material or from perspiration or sebum stains on the Star Yoga Mat. At some point, the flooring will be scratched, but that doesn’t mean it will lose its anti-skid properties.
Which Yoga Mats to practice with sneakers?
You can practice fitness or other activities with sneakers on all yoga mats with a microfiber cover.
- Performance items are particularly suitable for this purpose,
- As well as travel articles.
- And the Cork Yoga Mat
Avoid practicing with sneakers on the other Yogom lines because the friction of the shoes will scratch and mark the foam coating of the Yomad products or the rubber coating of the Star products. Yoga mats made of PVC foam sold in sports stores and specially designed for fitness do not get damaged by contact with sneakers because PVC is a solid material and suitable for fitness. It is however very toxic so we do not recommend it as a yoga tool because there are alternatives with as much or even more technical performance. However, if you practice both Yoga and Fitness, either invest in a Performance mat if it suits your Yoga practice or invest in two mats: one for Yoga and one for Fitness.
