DIFFERENCE BETWEEN YOGA MATS AND GYM MATS

When you shop on the web, the temptation is to go and consult the offers of the big sports distribution brands such as Go Sport, Sport 2000 or Decathlon. These brands have the advantage of fast delivery and an attractive price, however, they will probably not be up to the mark in terms of quality, composition and technical performance (adhesion, density, stability, etc.) .
In fact, the mats and accessories sold in this type of store are actually mats that correspond to a practice close to fitness. A yoga mat has nothing to do with a sports mat! The floor mats sold in sports stores are often thick and if they cushion the support during a fitness or pilates session, you will sink too much into these mats when doing your yoga postures because the thickness is much too important (often more than 1 cm). Many yoga postures require you to balance and for that you need a dense mat, not too thick and in which you don’t sink! Exercise mats can cause you to lose your balance while exercising.
In addition, these mats are often made of PVC material, which is not an adhesive material. Their coating is not anti-slip. The PVC slips and has a sticky and stinky texture that is very unpleasant both to the touch and the smell! It can ruin your yoga session and your exercises!
You won’t find a gym mat on which to practice yoga in comfort and safety. On the other hand, you can find a quality yoga mat on which to practice fitness and or pilates and meditation in comfort!

The question is the same on Amazon, the prices are very competitive and the offer is large but the entry-level carpets will be mainly made of synthetic materials such as PVC which is not recyclable and therefore not ecological.

Also on Amazon’s store, the TPE yoga mats will not have the same density of TPE as Yogom’s Yomad although they have the same thickness on paper. The cushioning, the grip and the smell are in our opinion criteria not to be neglected to practice yoga in good conditions.
