ADHERENCE, GRIP, THICKNESS, DIMENSIONS AND TEXTURE OF THE PRODUCT: the criteria of choice

It is normal to ask yourself if the carpet you are about to buy is of good quality before questioning its durability.
- Is it resistant, is it adapted to the use I will make of it? Will it tear?
- What is its lifespan and is it organic or ecological?
- Will it flatten over time, fade, crumble?
- Will I slip if I sweat too much or if I do dynamic yoga?
- Will my knees be sufficiently cushioned or will I have to bend my mat, double it up or place a blanket to cushion the postures and gently accommodate my joints?
- Will it be pleasant to the touch?
- Will it sink under my support and take time to regain its shape?
- Will it be big enough for my body, will my feet stick out? Standard size : 160 cm ( more than 1,8m for our mat)
It is normal that your research is focused on a hyper resistant and non-slip yoga mat if you practice a dynamic yoga like Vinyasa, Ashtanga or Bikram.

On the other hand, if you practice a softer form of yoga such as Hatha yoga or Yin yoga, Nidra and Kundalini, or meditation, you’ll need a comfortable, cozy and soft mat that is more than just non-slip.

And if you are like us, versatile yogis, beginners or advanced, but especially if you practice gentle yogas from time to time and sometimes more dynamic yogas, you will be looking for a mat that is comfortable, cushioning and non-slip.

For gentle yoga where you spend a lot of time in savasana (the reclining relaxation posture) and do a lot of floor postures, it can be nice to have a big, thick mat.

YOU HESITATE BETWEEN THE PERFORMANCE AND THE STAR?
You have to choose the most important criterion for you between the nice design of the Performance and its extremely pleasant touch that changes the rubbery materials and the ultra non-slip side of the Star carpet.
- If you sweat a lot during the range of Performance yoga mats can please you because the coating adheres with perspiration but it is also a range which is appropriate for the dynamic yogas because the coating allows a certain fluidity of movement in the flows: the hands and the feet are simply braked but the material is not sticky. You will therefore have to gain strength in your phalanges to stabilize yourself.
- The STAR range is very different: the rubber coating is ultra non-slip (grip +++), you will not move and this may bother some who want to keep a fluidity of flow, but practitioners of Hatha, Ashtanga, Iyengar or other types of yoga where many positions are static or maintained will love this range that is anti-slip, whether you sweat or not.
- Gentle yogis will love the Performance’s soft microfiber coating that folds like a towel, not the Star.
- Both models have the same durable latex base.

YOU HESITATE BETWEEN THE YOMAD AND THE STAR ?
You have to decide if the most important criteria for you is the lower price of the Yomad mat, its lightness and great comfort, or the much more non-slip coating of the STAR mat but heavier.
- The Star is suitable whether you sweat or not, the Yomad is recommended if you don’t sweat or sweat a little, and if you sweat a lot it is better to take a Performance.
- For two people who don’t sweat the difference is weight, the Yomad is lighter and easier to carry but the Star is more stable on the ground and more durable as well (it’s a mat you’ll keep longer because of its natural rubber layer). Foam mats are more fragile, but if you only practice once or twice a week and you don’t have a “scraped” practice (i.e., pressing and rubbing hard in your routines), they are more durable.The Yomad thick yoga mat will do very well and is more than enough. For people who scrub their carpet a lot, the Star will score less than the Yomad.
- The Yomad is more comfortable if you want to do pilates and its cover is less fragile for fitness even if the ideal for fitness is the Performance.
- Also take into account the price of these two products in your choice. Clearly the Star is more non-slip and has a great grip but its coating is more fragile over time, it marks. The price difference is based on the technical nature of the Star carpet’s strong adhesion. It is not a difference in quality but rather in technique because all our products are of good quality.

YOU HESITATE BETWEEN THE PERFORMANCE AND THE PERFORMANCE COMFORT?

The Performance Range and the Performance Comfort Range have the same coating. Only the base changes. The Performance Comfort has the same base as the Yomad mat, i.e. a TPE foam (thermoplastic elastomer): very comfortable, dense and light. The base of the Performance mat is made of natural rubber, more stable on the ground but much heavier and you cannot practice on the reverse side, whereas on the Performance Comfort mat you can practice on the reverse side, i.e. on the TPE foam side. Both mats have a soft microfiber coating.

The Performance Mat can be folded in 3 without damage to fit in a suitcase. The Performance Comfort Mat does not fold, it only rolls.

If you are hesitating between the Yomad Mat and the Performance Comfort, the Yomad is more grippy. The Performance Comfort is a better choice for yogis interested in the Performance Line but who would like a lighter, thicker mat.

USE AND PRACTICE
- The Yomad yoga mat range has been designed for a beginner’s practice, occasional or with pronounced support (for example pilates) in indoor. Please note: you should not practice on the Yomad mat with sneakers.
- The range of Performance yoga mats has been designed for frequent practices that are both gentle (Kundalini, Nidra, Yin Yoga, as the large dimensions and velvet touch make the practice very comfortable) but also more dynamic with fast and fluid movements (Ashtanga, Bikram, Vinyasa, Fitness, Pilates). The mat slows down the movement in contact with perspiration without blocking it and is very stable on the ground. If you don’t sweat and your hands and feet tend to slip, choose the Yomad or Pro line.
- The Star yoga mat range is perfectly adapted to frequent, intense and dynamic practices (Vinyasa, Ashtanga, Bikram, Hot Yoga, Hatha, Fitness, Pilates), especially those that require great stability on the mat (your hands and feet will not slip 1cm!) and for balancing postures. It is suitable for everyone, whether you sweat or not, and has excellent grip on the ground.

WEIGHT
- Yomad and Voyage yoga mats are more suitable if you transport your carpet regularly because they are light. The Yomad tpe mat is ideal for studio practice (light and very cushioning) while the Travel mat is ideal if you move around a lot or if you travel because it is foldable like a towel, but also thinner.
- The Star and Performance mats are heavier (due to the natural rubber which is denser but provides more strength and stability). Latex is a durable, quality material but is heavier.
PRACTICALITY OF YOUR YOGA MAT: WEIGHT AND STRAP OR BAG

The big and only question about this is: will you be carrying your yoga mat to classes? At the office? Are you going to take it on vacation with you? On a weekend? In a yoga class? On a yoga retreat?

If you plan to practice outside your home, you need your own yoga mat. First, not all yoga studios, centers or hotels have mats, and even if they do, we recommend that you have your own mat for hygiene reasons.

If you are transporting your carpet, it is very important to check the weight of the carpet you are going to buy. The yoga mats sold in France weigh between 900 g for the lightest and 3 kg for the heaviest. We will see that light does not necessarily mean thin and heavy does not necessarily mean thick. And finally, if you are going to carry your mat, you will need a strap to carry it or a bag to store it and then carry it on your shoulder.

Some brands like Yogom include a cotton mat carrier strap in the price of the mat, but for the majority they are sold separately. Note that you receive a cotton strap in kit form with the mat for the Yomad, Performance and Star lines. The travel mat doesn’t need to since it folds like a tote bag for example. For the carpets of the Douceur range and the cork carpet you will have to equip yourself with a bag in ecological cotton for example.

COMFORT
- The comfort is the same (except for the travel mat) regardless of the thickness between the Yomad 6mm yoga mat the Performance 4mm and the Star 4mm. The 4 mm are not less comfortable because it is not the same material and therefore not the same density and therefore not quite the same feeling of thickness on the ground.
- Be careful not to compare with PVC mats because PVC mats (usually foam fitness mats) are thick, but they are very soft and our body will tend to sink into them and feel the ground because despite the thickness they have no density.
- Yogom mats are very shock absorbing and comfortable for the joints!
- If the desire to do pilates should tip the balance then choose the Yomad.

COMPOSITION AND COATING
- The Performance, Travel and Star are made of natural rubber (rubber is very resistant, does not stretch or deform over time).
- The Performance and Voyage coverings are made of microfiber (very soft touch, velvet effect), while the Star coverings are made of polyurethane (ultra non-slip for hands and feet but not sticky).
- The Yomad mat is made entirely from recyclable TPE foam and is reversible. The coating on each side is soft (peach skin effect) with small patterns molded on the surface (small lotus engraved on the top and waves on the back), which give relief to the carpet and make it sticky. But the Yomad carpet is more fragile than the Performance carpets. It supports less than other carpets the “scraped” practices which scrape the foam.
- The yoga mat made of sheep’s wool of the range Douceur is composed of wool of Merino, certified Oeko-Tex. The touch is extremely soft and comfortable.
- The only surface that can really support sneakers for fitness practice is Performance.
